Muscle Burns Fat baby – Embrace the weights!

I want to talk to you about lifting weights. Specifically about how building muscle will help you burn more fat!

True story!

So often I hear people (especially ladies) saying how they are afraid of lifting weights because they are worried that building muscle will make them look big and bulky and result in weight gain, not weight loss.

This could not be further from the truth. Building muscle is the key to burning more fat.

We all know the basic science behind weight loss right? If your calorie output is more than your intake the end result will be weight loss right?

If your anything like me you are super busy and want to make the mot of the limited “spare” time you have. This is where weight training is your secret weapon.

To keep your muscles functioning efficiently will require/burn more calories than any of that pesky old fat tissue. Yes friends you read that right . . . the more muscle you have the more calories you body will burn even while your resting.

Love, love, love that!

Now . . . to lose a pound of fat you need to burn an extra 3500 calories. I highly recommend you do it with a healthy combination of both diet and exercise. Resistance training will build additional lean muscle which will elevate your metabolic rate. So you won’t need to spend hours and hours running on a treadmill or live off lettuce leaves which does not sound like much fun if you ask me.

I’m not saying don’t do cardio, I love cardio! but if I had to choose between cardio and weight training I would pick weights every time.

Work major muscle groups, alternate between upper and lower body which will see your heart rate increase much like it does with a good cardio session. Kinda like killing 2 birds with one stone – all kinds of efficient 🙂

Now if your new to lifting weights it may take a few attempts before you find the appropriate weight. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself though, be your own personal trainer. However don’t shoot for glory, safety first – always!

Take care when performing each rep.

Slow and steady movement, count slowly in your head 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi as you work to  lift/lower the weight.

Remember to breathe!

Breathe out when pushing through the toughest part of the exercise.

Embrace the weights people, muscle really does burn fat.
